Caring hands

It is late and I am getting married tomorrow, but I wanted to post a few pictures of today’s shoot at “Equest Therapeutic Horsemanship”. Equest is a non-profit therapeutic riding center for children and adults with disabilities. They have been the very first in Texas in 1981 and have great successes in every area. They sent athletes to Para-Olympic events, that is one of the big and impressive achievements. On a more local level, they have 300 volunteers helping out in classes and around the stable every week!

As I poked my head into the first class this morning I immediately had tears in my eyes. And I am not the most sentimental person. I was overwhelmed by the genuine care and love of everyone helping those kids that sat on horses, large and small, smiling and relaxed. Equest does not only give children with all kinds of disabilities, be it physical or mental, a place to come together and participate in activities that are sport, relaxation and therapy all in one. Equest offers a family. It is amazing to see this much “love for your neighbour” in one place. It really is one of those places that humbles you. And I didn’t have to travel the world to experience that feeling. It is right next door. Where people genuinely care and give whatever is needed. If you are in the DFW area, stop by there some time! And if not, I’m sure you can find a place like that in your neighborhood.

Here a few impressions of the helping hands at Equest.

Dear little notebook…

This pretty little thing is my newest find. I am a sucker for anything new and not seen before and I am also a sucker for any office product. Office Depot, Staples, you name it, I go in there for no reason at all and buy cool stuff that helps me organize. Not matter if I need it or not. And I buy notebooks. I would hate to be called a collector of anything, but if I would be completely honest to myself I would have to say I do not use two thirds of all of my notebooks. I mean they usually do contain a sentence or two on the first page at least… but by the time I need to write something else down I have most likely found a new one.

Anyway, so this is now accompanying me and my camera wherever we go. And it carries more than just one sentence cause my intention is to use it for all photography tips and notes I acquire along the way. Good luck little notebook. May you be one of the few that sticks with me for a long time!

On a side note, I am going to try to blog at least once a week now. On Mondays. I’m very scared to even write that out loud… scared I might not keep the promise. If I don’t, go ahead and hold me accountable. Thanks.

See you next Monday!
